Welcome to another Homepage. Out of 4.5 Billion people in the World I am honoured that you should visit me. If you share the family surname, some one may be interested in hearing from you, visit The Barlow Homepage or mail Some other Dave barlow First a few words about myself.
I am 38 years old, marrried and live in Basingstoke, England. Seven years ago I met a beautifull woman who foolishly agreed to live with me. So, I moved from London to Basingstoke, got marrried and bought a house.
My home town is St.Helens in Merseyside, though I was born in Liverpool. St. Helens is where the world would have piles, piles of coal. It is placed on the Lancashire coal fields and coal used to be the main industry until the depresion of the 1980's. As the government refused to help the industry, the town died and unemployment rocketed. This is apparently due to free market forces and you are meant to get on your bike and find work. Rather tricky when no jobs are to be had for miles and you are not experienced. Having more sense than money I tried to get better qualifications in the hope of improving myself. For a good description of events in towns like St. Helens go and see the film Brassed Off.
Having some 'O' levels from school I went to college and studied for a TEC Diploma in Telecommunications at Old Swan Technical College, Liverpool, in the hope of getting a good job. As there where still no jobs I went to University at Queen Mary and Westfield, London to become an Astronomer, my real wish. After failing my first year I got more qualifications and tried again, this time at Royal Holloway and Beford New College, Egham . This time I passed but could not get a Ph.D sponsorship. So, in desperation I tried the job market again. Got a job as a networks/PC Engineer in SIA, moved to a Pharmaceutical company, Rhone-Polenc Rorer (they pay more) then met my future wife. As I moved to Basingstoke I moved jobs (again) to Slough, working for Lucas Management Systems, now Artemis. Travelling 70 miles a day down one of the busiest roads in the country (the M4) is bad for your health so I eventually moved again and worked for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in the UK customer support Centre in town. As a support professional I first supported Digital's OpenVMS Operating System then moved to supporting their TCP/IP services for Open/VMS. Digital where unfortunately the wrong company for me. So, for many reasons, I have moved jobs, yet again, and now work for Internet, Intranet Solutions Ltd. My main job is supporting Multinet, Guardian Firewalls, QIP and Predictor and Vantage, formerly Comnet III
